Description: A cutout from a bookplate. Initials S & M T. Three lions rampant regardant. The oval field is azure, the lozenge vert. This partial plate appears in an early edition of Hoyle consisting of five works (1744-1747) bound together in cheap calf. No other indications of ownership or reading.

I have learned that the bookplate and arms are of a Tyson family from Tottenham North London. The plate is listed in the Couch collection at the Society of Antiquaries. It is still an open question which Tyson...
